Rib Flare: Stop Forcing Your Ribs Down and Master Pressure Instead

biotensegrity breathing diaphragm intra-abdominal pressure pelvic floor posture rib flare Oct 17, 2026

In an effort to manage rib flare, a lot of people end up just flexing through their spine without actually owning the position. Instead of just forcing your ribs down, it's about mastering pressure.

What goes wrong

When your chest wall compresses and your sternum drops, you're forced to flex through your spine instead of exhaling properly.

What to do instead

Your diaphragm needs to dome upward during exhalation so your ribs can actually depress and retract inward. Instead of spinal flexion, engage your deep core, staying tall and lifted while maintaining the intra-abdominal pressure that keeps the stack between your diaphragms.
