There Is No One Right Way to Perform an Exercise: What to Consider Instead

There is no one right way to perform an exercise. There are many options, beyond loading parameters, that have different outcomes.

What to consider when choosing what works best for someone

  • Available range of motion
  • Starting position of the thorax and pelvis
  • Which direction we may want to turn them
  • Biasing tension on the inside or the outside, depending on what they need
  • Avoiding compensations
  • How they naturally respond to the cues and constraints given to them

People self-organize

In my experience, people self-organize in ways we can't always predict, because of their own movement history and maps. My goal is always to be a movement communication guide who helps improve their communication network.
